Castle heights, critical rolls, and ancient ruins: A weekend in Edinburgh
This past weekend, I took a trip up to Edinburgh for an absolute bucket-list experience: watching the Critical Role show live against the historic backdrop of Edinburgh Castle!
As a GM and lifelong TTRPG fan, seeing that incredible cast perform in such a cinematic, legendary setting was unforgettable. There’s something incredibly special about watching modern collaborative storytelling come to life surrounded by centuries of history.
But the adventure didn't stop at the castle gates. I spent the rest of the weekend exploring the dramatic landscape of the city to get the creative world-building gears turning. Highing up to the atmospheric ruins of St. Anthony’s Chapel in Holyrood Park was a massive highlight—standing among the ancient stones overlooking the city felt like stepping directly into a fantasy campaign.
Edinburgh has a unique, rugged energy that is pure inspiration for anyone who loves storytelling. I'm returning home with a full notebook, a lot of inspiration for my own tables, and some amazing memories.
To any fellow Critters or TTRPG folks who were there—how incredible was that atmosphere?
